Accessibility statement for Dental Training Information System (DTIS)
This accessibility statement applies to the DTIS (https://nes-dtis.azurewebsites.net/) application.
This application is run by NHS Education for Scotland. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this application. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the application using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the application using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the application using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the application text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this application is
Parts of this application are not fully accessible. For example:
- interactive controls are nested inside other interactive elements, which can cause problems for keyboard and screen reader users.
- heading elements are empty or missing, which can make navigation difficult for screen reader users.
- the application does not contain a main landmark or level-one heading to help identify the main content.
- page content is not contained within landmark regions, which can make it harder to navigate using assistive technologies.

PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
We have assessed this application and determined that fixing the identified accessibility issues would be a disproportionate burden because of the following:
- DTIS will not be updated to address these specific issues, as the application is planned to move to the new Turas design system in the future
- the application has been built with old technology and limited developer resource to fix any issues at this moment in time
- the new design system will improve accessibility across Turas applications and ensure better alignment with the WCAG 2.2 standard
